I chose "other" as my artist type, because I'm several things: a writer/editor, a photographer, a crafter, a mixed media artist. I have no degrees in creative writing, journalism, nor fine arts, but I have been doing all of these things (except photography--which is a new-found talent)--all of my life--since I could pick up a pen, really.
Oh--and I hand sew. Currently, my soft goods designs are very simple, but I feel I have a knack for color and pattern, and people like them. I plan to learn more involved techniques and do not intend to go back to using a sewing machine (unless I find and can afford a treadle or something else non-electric.)
I have worked as a stringer for various local (Washington, DC area) publications, I'm a fairly prolific blogger (depending on my mood, time allowance, and inspiration,) and I have two chapbooks in progress.
I also have a painting in progress. In addition, I have both and Etsy shop and a CafePress store (both under the name, "Dragon Rags.")
My materials are about 90% recycled/reclaimed. Sometimes, this even includes the paint I use. (Freecycle is a wonderful thing.)
I'm also interested in fashion, though I'd be more interested in being a fashion photographer than a designer. Also, when I was younger (and thinner and prettier,) I wanted to be a model.
I was raised with an appreciation for the arts, and I try to live and breathe art and creativity, even when I am doing the most mundane of tasks.
On top of all of this, I am an environmentalist, a Feminist, and an animal lover. My boyfriend and I share our home with 9 cats, most of them rescued, all of them "sneutered" and spoiled beyond belief. I do some rescue work on my own, as well. |
