Adam Absinthe
Interview By Brian Patrick Wade
Sept 1, 2007

Adam Absinthe is already a star. He just awaits a record label to soon make him a bigger one. In less than two years he has amassed 66 thousand fans on his Myspace page as of July 2007, without the use of advertising or adder bots which is proven by the fact that the profile has not been deleted in all this time. He has had countless hits on his website worldwide most notably the U.S., Great Britain. and Canada, done several internet and radio interviews, and fills the first five pages of a Google search. He's done this all on his own. He is an accomplished model working with top photographers, and has been successfully selling merchandise on his online market where he also has a book published. He has marketed himself to a broad fan base across the world including all types of people because of his outrageous rants and eye catching image.

After a Motley Crue lifestyle preceded by a crazy childhood, and a long period looking for a band in the Boston area he decided to move to Hollywood and began a solo career knowing he wanted things his way, if he was going to blow up to epic proportions in the vain of Marilyn Manson, Linkin Park, and Bjork.

He began recording with various musicians around the globe, all digitally online. He currently resides in Hollywood awaiting the switch from worldwide underground fame, to worldwide pop icon. Other talents of this post modern renaissance man include, modeling, artwork, certified makeup artist, and certified filmmaker of The New York Film Academy, author, poet, and actor.

Comparisons can be made to Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails. But Adam Absinthe differs from these bands because his band, is more experimental and has a less gothic/horror, more glamorous image as well as a more electronic rather than organic sound. The thing that most distinguishes Adam Absinthe from other bands of the sort is having a multi talented front man who as mentioned earlier is a writer, model, painter, and makeup artist. The band has a very image conscious look and live show. The music concepts attack a broad range of taboos from politics to religion as well as honing in on personal emotions that every human shares.

BPW:
How does it feel to be constantly re-inventing yourself and setting trends for everyone to rip off?
AA:
It's kinda like when you go to the dentist and it really sucks but feels good at the same time. Tila Tequila and I were the first people ever on myspace to have that first and last name, same letter, combo for our stage names. Now everybody is a Betty Bang or a Frankie Faghag. I did a photoshoot about 3 years ago with "Not OK" written on my chest in black lipstick and I had to take it down because My Chemical Romance came out with that song and everyone would have thought that I was inspired by them, when it could very well have been the other way around. I would also like to mention that if you think you see me at some club in Hollywood, ask because there's about 900 Adam Absinthe protege's out here and people are always saying they saw me somewhere I was not. It used to get me in trouble with girlfriends...
BPW:
What's up with no label or cd yet?
AA:
For two years I have been involved heavily in relationships that have brought me to Canada and Seattle. This is the first time I'm single and focused. I'm back in Hollywood and there is so much going on now. I have management and a full band now. The demo is being worked on and labels have already offered distribution, even from the guys behind Eminem and 50 Cent. We don't want just distribution, we want a full recording contract and tour and we won't get that until we have a complete demo. We are working on that now. It takes a while because there is recording, but then there is mixing, mastering, packaging, copyrighting, etc.. time and money two things I never seem to have enough of.
BPW:
So you're not dating anyone right now?
AA:
No are you trying to go out with me? I just got out of a heavy relationship which I thought was amazing but in retrospect is was just a fairy tale. I think I realized that when she called pretending to be pregnant last month, then said she had an abortion, then told me she had slept with 4 other guys that month all while trying to re-kindle what we had. There's actually a guy who dates all of my ex's. Like the last two, so I think he's dating her now. No, I'm serious...
BPW:
So when you say she, I assume you're straight?
AA:
No it's a tranny. Just kidding. I don't believe in labels as we all know. A friend of mine once said that gayness is like a scale so pretend 0 is totally gay and 10 is totally straight. 5 would be perfectly bisexual. Everybody is bisexual by nature. Nobody is a 0 or a 10. Me, I would say I fall somewhere between 5 and 10.
BPW:
You do a lot of things besides music that a lot of people don't know about don't you?
AA:
Yeah I was never classically trained in music. I'm more of a Jim Morrison or Marilyn Manson. Someone with a vision and ideas put to others music, although I do a heavy amount of the electronic parts in this band. I was going to draw comic books for a living, but my father wouldn't send me to the school I wanted because it wasn't a real college. I ended up going to Film School instead which wasn't a real college either. Don't ask. Film just wasn't instant enough for me. I need instant gratification. Two years later when your film is done, you're like so over it anyway. From writing songs as a teen, I developed a penchant for poetry and have a book of poems for sale which anyone can Google to find. I can do art well, and there's some stuff on www.adamabsinthe.net, but I only do maybe one piece of art a year. I am a professional Make-Up Artist as well. I have worked for Chanel, MAC, and Nars. I'm working on films right now doing the make-up on celebrities, but contractually bound not to say which ones. It pays the bills Hollywood is all smoke and mirrors. You think these bands have money but they don't they actually don't get shit off of CD sales so it's common to see a famous band member cutting hair at a salon or tattooing at a shop. So with that said if anyone wants to donate me money contact me haha. Merch.sales are what get you paid and we will be doing the Hot Topic thing after we get our deal. In the future I'm going to pretend I'm like a rapper or J-Lo and come out with my own cosmetics line.
BPW:
Your old deadjournal.com entries portray you as a psycho living a Motley Crue lifestyle. How does that compare to you today?
AA:
Well, to be honest I'm smarter but that's about it. When this band is signed and touring it will be the next Guns n Roses so it's not over...We haven't had any rockstar types since the 90's and that's sad. Rockstars today look like your next door neighbor. That's just not right. I'm bringing back the brat and I'm breaking a lot of things on the way.
BPW:
Break down your personality for the acquiring minds. What's it like to deal with you everyday.
AA:
I'm a Cancer, My moon is in Scorpio. My rising is Virgo and my Venus is in Gemini. This basically means I'm fucked. The Cancer makes me a sensitive but very powerful person. Alexander the Great was a Cancer, so is Tom Cruise. Success. Missy Elliot, Pam Anderson, 50 Cent, etc... But my Virgo makes me a shy piece of shit who can barely ask the waitress for another napkin or the girl on a date. The Virgo/Cancer makes me work though, like a mad scientist at 4 am when I'm sick as hell, making a song though. The Scorpio in me is the dangerous psycho part. It's what makes me get in a fight at a bar, or fuck things up with my relationships. It also explains the rockstar vibe and the sexual energy. I'm fiercely jealous because of it, and always need to be the one breaking hearts but my Cancer/Virgo makes me run back to people after and mend them after the guilt enraptures me. The most impossible to deal with part of me is my Venus in Gemini. It makes me want to marry you and have a white picket fence while going out and fucking anything that moves but still being madly in love with you. I get bored in a matter of months because of it and have to flirt constantly but because of the Virgo, it's usually behind a computer screen or after a lot of drinks. So all in all I'm virtually incompatible with anybody including myself, yet the easiest person to get along with. It's weird. I'm really nice and mellow to be around hanging out. The people that will have the most problems with me are long term like relationships, band members, and housemates. That's from an astrological standpoint, which I find more valid than the industry of death called psychology.
BPW:
What's the band lineup?
AA:
Right now I have Ashes formerly of Scarlet's Remains amongst other bands, playing guitars and kind of co-producing the demo. Cosmoe is playing rythm guitar live, Joshua is playing bass live, but also doing keyboards and guitars on the album, and Mike is doing most of the programming and live drums.
BPW:
You are very popular in Europe. Any plans for a tour?
AA:
It's in the air because when the demo is done we can play around L.A. and maybe even do a couple of east coast shows too out of pocket, but when we get signed it's another story. That's where investors come, and festivals, and sponsors. The label could launch a tour for us or throw us on a bill with another touring band. There's no way to tell. Like, say a U.K. label picks us up then we'll probably be doing like festivals in Germany to 8,000 people etc...Either way yes, we will tour Europe and the States, etc...but I just don't know when and who will make it happen.
BPW:
Your fans are very dedicated. What do you see in store for them?
AA:
Yeah my fans rock. I love them all. I got some cupcakes in the mail the other day which was rad. One just got my lyrics and initials tattooed on her and even let me tattoo a bit of it. She's going to be starting a street team from Nebraska. I'll post the info when she gets it together on my website in the news section. When we get our deal I'll start heavily merchandising for the whole thing. Fans are a blessing. Look what the D.F. has done for A.F.I. A lot of people are just discovering me on other sites like trig.com and buzznet.com. The best thing fans do is add my page, put my songs and pics, on their page and tell their friends. They can also go to other sites like those and buzz and trig me. The networking I do is awesome but they are the ones who really have the power to spread the word. I get a lot of compliments on myspace and I go to leave a comment only to see the person hasn't added me. That kinda sucks because the more people I have the more networking. I can't wait to tour and let these people see what we can do live. It'll be a real show. I love you guys.
