http://iam.bmezine.com/events.exe?cmd=zoom&event=1969"Here it is, the moment you've ALL been waiting for! It's time to start hyping the 8TH Annual SoCal BME/IAM BBQ, Meet, and Freakathon!!! Eight years…it’s been eight damn years! Can you BELIEVE it?!? Our event is officially one of the longest running BME events. Every year it gets better…and this year is no different. We’re having the event a little before we usually do, partially in the hopes that those of us who rarely see the day star don’t get roasted like in the past. We are planning all of the usual craziness(the traditional Trivia contest and give away, the "Run Like A Spaz" competition, people fucking in the trees, drunkenness, sex, food, silliness, lots of guests, pulls (DEFINITELY on, thanks to the amazing Enigma…more on that in a bit), and Dave acting the fool). Write this date down NOW: August 9, 2008 @ around 10:30 am 'til the cows come home. That's when this shindig is going DOWN, and it will be at the usual location, the lovely Presido Park, San Diego, Californication. Get there EARLY for prime parking (parking IS limited in the area) and early opportunities for seeing Dave act like a complete tardo. More details will follow, including Mapquest data, lists of stuff to bring, "rules (not damn many)," etc. This year’s amazing helpers are IAMhaman and IAM:Lauturtle. However, ANY offers for help will NOT be turned down. Like I said, more details to follow, but PLEASE feel free to ping me or Shaman if you have ANY questions and/or concerns. Get ready for fun folks, 'cause we're gonna do this AGAIN! BTW, any RUMORS of a post-BBQ orgy at Dave's place are not true; however, the usual drunken ugliness will take place at the Zombie Lounge afterparty, as usual…
Before I split, I just want to address a FEW issues that should be in some kind of SoCal BBQ FAQ:
KIDS: They are *certainly* invited. Bring your spawn. That said, keep in mind that this is often an NC-17 event. Foul language, strange behavior, and the occasional bit of partial nudity CAN happen. This is a salty event, but if your kids are used to swimming in the sea, bring them. If not, you may want to shelter them a bit longer.
FOOD: the event, due to its size, is BYOE (Bring Your Own Everything). Bring whatever food you want to much and what you want to drink...and you may even want to bring some food to share (we always have a communal food table set up). Most people sorta picnic for lunch and then BBQ for dinner, but there should be a grill going for each time of the day, so no worries there. If someone or sometwo could be so kind as to bring extra coals just in case, that would rock. There will be a vegetarian grill and a carnivore grill, so all will be good.
PULLS: There WILL be pulls AGAIN this year! The incredibly cool and kind folks at Enigma are sponsoring this. Once again, there will be spots for about 20 people to pull due to time and equipment restrictions. Now is the time to start planning if you want to do this. Talk to me in ADVANCE *and* the day of the event. We have already started sign ups, so contact me soon if you are interested. Only contact me to sign up if you are definitely going to be there. We will have a waiting list, as well. As always, some folks drop out at the last minute, so if you are interested, make sure we know. If you contact me directly, we can talk about the details. That said, if you are drinking (you know what I mean), you won’t be pulling. If you aren’t wearing something that can be removed, cut, or moved out of the way for throwing hooks, you won’t be pulling. Girls, this does not mean bras. We had trouble with this in the past, and I want to make sure we deal with it in advance. We are at a public park, and we’re in a grey area anyway, so I don’t want to push it. Talk to me if you have questions.
THINGS TO BRING: here is a list of things you're gonna WANT that day...sunscreen (people get ROASTED every year), food, lots to drink (please don’t get dehydrated), something to sit on (blanket, lawn chairs, etc.), games, Frisbees, squirt guns, extra toilet paper (the loo has been known to run out of bog rolls), hat, sunglasses, gifts for the host (just kidding), strange things, cameras, batteries for your electronic devices, and other things I've forgotten.
PICTURES: remember to ask before you take pics of people doing pulls and such. For some people this is a very sacred and private event...or they just want to concentrate on what they are doing. Be kind and polite or face my wrath. Please be respectful, in general, of folks who are camera-shy.
DOGS: the park is dog friendly, but not all dogs are dog friendly, too. Keep that in mind. If your dog doesn't get along so well with other dogs, kindly leave them at home with a nice new toy or bone so they don't feel left out. Pet rhinos are RIGHT OUT.
ATTITUDE: leave that at home, too. There are no rock stars at this event. Trust me on that one. Gratitude, not attitude. Drama is a no-no at this event in a BIG way.
FRIENDS: bring them! If they have an open mind about our world, feel free to tote them along. The more folks, the merrier. Really. All are welcome…if they can deal.
RSVPing: please do. There will be a list from the Events page right off the main IAM page. See me if you need info on how to sign it. It's a no-brainer, really.
SCHWAGG: there should be lots, so be prepared to enter contests/drawings/etc. LOTS of folks should end up going home with goodies of some kind or another. Also, if you frequent a shop that you think might like some free advertising either talk to them yourself or put me in touch with them. Every shirt that gets worn in public drives business to them…and people really like supporting cool shops. Please talk to me ASAP if you have ANY leads.
ME: if you know me, find me and hug me. I live on hugs. If you don't know me, and this is your first BBQ, find me and hug me. Same applies. A lot of people have been here MANY years running, and this is my EIGHTH fucking year of doing this thing. I want to eventually know ALL of you by name, ok?
OTHER QUESTIONS: you can get hold of me easily through IAM. If you can't get me, Shaman might know the answers. But I'm your best bet for now. Don't be afraid to ask me anything about the event. I know all. Tee hee! "
