In my opinion, since you look at it as, he's happy your happy.

You should definitley go somewhere nice, go out and have a really nice weekend to just you two.
Just do something nice and romantic.
But be creative with it so its not what alot of people call "the same old thing".

actually, as his girlfriend, it is your place. by him being unhealthy and drepressed its effecting you and your relationship. so step up and tell him. because you care, its totally your place.

My thing with this is that I think the trip is a good idea but it seems like just a bandaid or quickfix solution for the problem but it doesnt really address..the problem. and i think therapy or you talking it all out..laying everything out on the table is how you can both feel better.

If you really care about him it is kind of your place. Thats what makes relationships work, it is looking out for each other and stepping up to bat when the other one needs help or does not have the confidence to do so. You know what I mean? Also I am not trying to sound like you Mom LOL

Then again maybe he does not need to see a doctor. I have struggled with depression since I have been about 10 years old but I recently got over most of that because I realized that the problem was not me. It was the fucked up family and society that I was raised in. There are a lot of books on depression and I am a big fan of anything to fix it naturally from herbs to yoga.

Maybe even some long talks might help. One thing I know from the many, many, many shrinks I saw when I as a teenager is all they do is listen and let you figure out your own problems.

Just something to think about: Scientist have done a lot of studies in secluded areas of the world like in the Amazon rain forests and found that depression is pretty much unheard of in the tribes down there. They have pretty much found the same results all over the world in the secluded society's. I am not saying to join a tribe but our lives here are so complex that they really make living too easy, allowing us time to get depressed.

Id deff just sit down and talk to him about the things are bothering you, and if hes not willing to work on things so you are both happy in the relationship, id consider breaking up. you desearve a happy and healthy relationship. you both have to bring something to the relationship and if hes not, hes not doing his part. relationships add something to your life, and if they arent, why want them?

I think you saying you need a better boyfriend shows you know he sucks and isnt really great boyfriend material much less great for you. But you are holding back from breaking it off with him because you :
a) cares too much
b) scared that if you break up with him you wwont find someone else as good or like him
c) dont want to break the comfort or the familiarity of the situation d) you just cant, its hard. too much feelings are involved

it sounds cheesy, but sometimes some of the hardest things to do are the best things for you. im not saying you should break up with him because i dont really know him or the situation well enough to judge, but the sole fact you recognize that he has problems and its making your relationship and you have problems means you realize something is wrong between you two and it kinda makes you wonder if being with him is the best choice for you?

i think its important to love someone and be there for someone and take care of them, but the best person to be there for someone like that is someone they cant drag down into that hole with them. Like for instance if you ever read Kevin SMiths blog about Jay's addiction with heroin and he never did drugs or got dragged down into Jays addiction and eventually helped him get out of the hell Jay created for himself in real life. You dont want to be dragged down with him and his problems because well what good can you do for him and yourself then? None, now both of you are fighting off his demons together, and honestly one of you needs to be sane and okay if youre taking care of the other person right? And you know, i think its important you dont lose yourself in a relationship. Just because someone else feels something you shouldnt feel obligated to feel that way too. You have to stay strong and not let yourself feel depressed because he is, dont let him rule over you or your emotions. you shouldnt let your life suck because his life does. Thats not fair for anyone.
