This is from something I wrote a while back. I wrote about all four seasons, but what I wrote about fall is my absolute favorite. Please let me know what you think!!!
...I like fall, too. Except for the goodbye part, that sucks. Going back to school, learning new things, meeting new people, and the aspen trees! The colors are amazing. Shorter days, longer nights, partying all weekend, never going to class, homecoming week in high school, and tailgating at the Homecoming game in college. Football. Football is the best part. Oh, and the World Series, no matter who's playing in it. War paint for the rivalry game. Getting tear gassed and kicked out for being too rowdy. Halloween, getting all dressed up, taking entirely too many pictures, and playing "where's the red cup?" the next day when you go through them. I love how one day you can wear shorts, and the next be bundled in a sweater and gloves and a scarf. And waking up to snow, driving to work in it... and driving home in sun-shinning weather and the roads are dry. That's really awesome.
But again, most of all, there's this smell that I love. Try to imagine walking around outside on a crisp fall day, not warm enough for short sleeves but not cold enough to be bundled in your snowboarding jacket. Ya know, like a sweater and jeans, but no gloves and scarf. It's sunny out, skies as clear and blue as ever. A few whispy clouds make the sky even bluer, and all the trees green, orange, red, and brown. The leaves are falling. You're walking back to your car after class, getting ready for some lunch, and digging for your keys in your backpack. You look up to see where the Canadian Geese are when you hear them honking loudly above you. And you hope they don't fly over you and take a shit. Then there's a light breeze, you hear the leaves flutter across the asphalt and concrete and you catch that smell... it smells like fall. Like decaying leaves and goose poop and wet dog. Yet somehow it still smells good, because you don't think of it like that. It's a familiar smell, comforting. I wish there were a perfume like that. I'd totally wear it...
